Plants Grown Up

by Sister Jessica Willoby

Plants need things to make them grow in the spring season and all through the year, and they are many of the same things we need to grow both physically and spiritually. Let’s take a look at some of the things that we all need to grow!

Sunlight – John 8:12, “…I am the light of the world….”

Plants will bend and even turn to be bathed in the sunlight. Sunlight warms the soil and helps the plants create energy. Our bodies need sunlight to be healthy and grow strong bones. Spiritually, we have access to the greatest light, Jesus Christ, to give us life, energizing us to live for Him and keeping our hearts warm towards God.

Water – Revelation 21:6, “…I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.”

Plants “drink up” water from rains that fall, the garden hose, or the watering can. Just as our bodies need water to live, we also must drink of the living water Christ offers for our salvation and to keep our hearts clean by the “…washing of water by the Word” (Ephesians 5:26).

Food – Job 23:12, “…I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”

Plants take up nutrients, or food, through the soil, allowing them to grow healthy and strong. We must eat good foods to do the same! To feed our souls, God has given us His Word, and through reading in our devotions, through our Sunday school lessons, and the preaching of the Word of God by our faithful pastors, we will grow spiritually.

Our God is a master gardener, and He provides everything we need so that we can be just what He wants us to be.

Psalm 144: 12, “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth….”
